Facilities
At the end of World War II, Kearney built Memorial Field. Built on a hill it is a great example of the kinds of stadiums built during this era. It was dedicated on June 2, 1946 and was named in honor of the servicemen who fought in World War II. The field was lighted in 1947 and a locker room was added in 1957. Memorial Field was home for the Kearney Yankees, a New York Yankees Class “D” minor League affiliate in the Nebraska League, and the Kearney Irishmen. The Irishmen were part of the Nebraska Independent League.
Memorial Field is primarily used for Legion's four teams during the summer, and Kearney High School Baseball program. Field amenities include artificial turf infield, bases distance anchors at 90’, pitching rubber at 65’, fence distances: Left-335, Right 325, Center 376, press box, locker rooms, bullpens and indoor batting cages. Field is lighted.
